Rick Callebs, CEO

YMCA of Greater Spartanburg

Rick earned a B.S. in Physical Education from Berea College in Kentucky. His 30-plus year YMCA career began in Sommerset, KY, and continued in Corpus Christi, TX, Bainbridge, GA, and Greenwood, SC. Rick has been with the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg since 2004. 

Fun Fact: Rick was the president of the boys choir in 8th grade.



David Ozmore, Branch Executive Director

Middle Tyger YMCA

David is a 24 year veteran of the YMCA.  He started his career with the YMCA of the Triangle in 1993 as a Youth Sports Director and Summer Day Camp Director.  In 1999, he became the first Executive Director of the Kings Mountain YMCA, a branch of the Cleveland County Family YMCA.  David later became the organization’s first Chief Operating Officer and served as leader of 6 YMCA branches. David accepted the Chief Executive Officer’s position with the YMCA of Greater New Orleans in 2008 and led a turnaround of one of the country’s oldest YMCAs, returning the YMCAs in New Orleans to stability and growth after Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 Oil spill. He also served as the President/Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of High Point from 2012 to 2016. David is married to his wife, Page (Shelby, NC). They have three daughters, Lauren, Sally Kathryn, and Jessie. David is a lifelong learner…He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Wingate University, and has completed his Master’s degree from Springfield College (Organizational Behavior and Leadership Development).

His passions in life include his family, running, cycling and cheering on the NC State Wolfpack!!!  



Ken Bailey, Branch Executive Director

Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA

Ken came to Spartanburg with an impressive 30-plus-year Y career behind him. Most recently, Ken was the CEO at the Bainbridge Y in Georgia, and prior to that he worked at YMCAs in Anderson, SC, Montgomery, AL and Cincinnati, OH. A graduate of Berea College, Ken earned a B.S. in Health, PE and Science. Ken is married with four grown children and enjoys deer hunting, fishing and baseball. His first job out of college was with a AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians!

Fun fact: Ken is a descendent of the Hatfield family - yes, that's right, the infamous Hatfield- McCoy feud.



Debra Garner, Finance Director

YMCA of Greater Spartanburg

Debra has been with the Y since 1997. She went to school at Spartanburg Community College and USC with a major in accounting.

Fun Facts: Debra loves to travel and her hobbies include scrapbooking, fish aquariums, and beading.



Cassie Lloyd, Director of Mission Advancement


Cassie earned her B.A. in English at Appalachian State University and her M.A. in school counseling at Gardner-Webb University. She began her career in sales and marketing and taught high school English and art before joining the Y as a yoga instructor in 2010. She became a Director in March of 2011.

Fun Fact: Cassie lived in seven different states while she was growing up, including Virginia, Connecticut, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Illinois, and Michigan. She loves cycling and hiking and she spends almost every weekend outdoors with her family.




Sheila Conder, Accounting Assistant

YMCA of Greater Spartanburg

A Spartanburg native, Sheila has worked with the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg since 1991. She attended USC Columbia and USC Upstate, and worked for 10 years as a secretary for School District 7 before her YMCA career began.


Atticus Fehl, Senior Program Director

Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA

Originally from Pittsburgh, Atticus went to Wofford College in Spartanburg where he received his B.S. degree in biology. His YMCA history includes lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons, as well as leading the Membership department before moving into his current role. He has been with the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg since 2006.

Fun Fact: Atticus has taken a lot of Botany classes and can identify many native SC plants to genera and species. He also enjoys cycling, skateboarding, and being outside.



Nichole Turner, Thomas E. Hannah Family & School District One Childcare Director

Nichole is from Columbia, SC where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She has worked for the Y since 2010, beginning when she was in high school as an after school counselor in Columbia, SC. After graduation from USC, Nichole decided to make the Y her career and moved to Spartanburg to be a site director for the state's only Achievement Gap After School program. Nichole is excited to serve the YMCA of Spartanburg and its community as the Thomas E Hannah YMCA Childcare Director! What she loves most about her job is developing the children and staff in the programs and watching them grow and be successful. And of course a good game of sharks and minnows! Her hobbies include crafting, traveling and living an active lifestyle.

Susan Luhrsen, Aquatics Director

Susan came to the Y from Michigan in 2014 where she "retired" from Bridgman Public Schools as Aquatics Manager. She relocated to Spartanburg with her husband Harold and has found real joy working in the Aquatics department at the Y. "I was never aware of the commitment to service and community that YMCAs offer - I am honored that I can fulfill my mission through Aquatic programs at the Tom!"

Fun fact: Susan loves Harry Potter and has always shares a birthday with another staff member at all her jobs! 



Wendy Jo Cotham, Wellness Director

Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA

Wendy Jo joined the YMCA family in January of 2017.  She has been in the Health and Wellness Field for over 20 years-beginning as a Group Exercise Instructor at North Carolina State University, where she graduated with a BA in History and Minor in Physical Education.  Wendy Jo's greatest joy is sharing her passion and heart for health and wellness with others. Wendy Jo is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Fitness Instructor, and is currently certified in Les Mills Body Pump, RPM, and GRIT.  When Wendy Jo is not at the Y, you can find her chasing after her three children: Franklin, Walt, and Martha...and her husband, Tucker!

Fun Fact: Wendy Jo was born in Paris.  Paris, Tennessee home of the "World's Biggest Fish Fry".



Sherry Johnson, Middle Tyger YMCA

Health and Wellness Specialist

Middle Tyger YMCA

Sherry has worked at the Middle Tyger Family YMCA since 2005. She is a certified fitness instructor and personal trainer who teaches classes and trains clients throughout the week.

Sherry is a native of Duncan, SC. She attended James F. Byrnes High School, Spartanburg Methodist College, and University of South Carolina Upstate.

Fun Fact: Sherry was a member of the Colorguard in the James F. Byrnes High School Marching Band and a Spartanburg Methodist College cheerleader.





Amy Smith, Association Business Operations Director

YMCA of Greater Spartanburg

Amy has a BA in Psychology and an MS in Human Services Community Counseling from the State University of  New York at Oswego. She began her Y career in early 2012 with the Northwest Family YMCA of Columbia and joined the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA in late 2012, but her Y roots go back over 20 years ago to high school when she worked with other teens in an outreach program run through the Auburn YMCA in New York state. Before starting her Y career, Amy taught at the college level for more than ten years and prior to that worked as a Teen Health Educator and a Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Fun facts… Amy was involved with Karate as a young teen and participated in sparring competitions. As an adult, she's had some poetry published.


Megan Murray, Senior Program Director

Middle Tyger YMCA

Megan began her Y career as a Lifeguard at the Greenwood Family YMCA in Greenwood, SC in 2010. She attended Lander University and received her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a minor in business administrative. She continued her Y journey when she moved back to Spartanburg, SC after college and became the Program Director for the Middle Tyger Family YMCA in December 2016.  

Fun Fact: Megan was born in Kansas and loves sports, going to lake Jocassee, and being outdoors as much as possible.



Deidre Taber, Membership Director

Middle Tyger YMCA

Deidre is a graduate of Lander University, located in Greenwood, S.C., where she earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration.  Deidre is married with three children. She has worked with the YMCA for over 13 years.  "My YMCA career began at the Greenwood Family YMCA in 2000, where I worked in member services and childcare. Then my husband's job brought us to the Spartanburg area and I started working at the  Middle Tyger YMCA in 2007. My family has always been very active members of the YMCA.  All three of my children have been involved in swim team and various other youth sports."

Fun Fact: Deidre is a certified scuba diver.  She loves reading, cooking and snow skiing.


Steve Wilson, Facilities Director

Middle Tyger Family YMCA

Steve has been with the Middle Tyger YMCA since 2007. A local high school football and track star, Steve has coached youth sports leagues and helped countless young people get involved with the Y. He has two adult sons.

Cool Fact: Steve opens the doors every weekday morning well before the official 5am opening to let folks get an extra-early start on their workouts.


David Lunsford, Facilities Director

Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA

David graduated from Northeast High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where he grew up. He and his wife and son moved to South Carolina in 2015 to be closer to family. David served in the U.S. Navy. 

Fun fact: David has a grown daughter who played Division 1 volleyball in college. David and his family love the outdoors. One of their favorite activities is hiking to waterfalls and swimming holes in the mountains.



Dan Mascolo, Head Swim Team Coach

YMCA of Greater Spartanburg

Coach Dan has been the Associate Head Coach of the National Champion YMCA Short Course and Long Course Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club for the past 13 years, along with being the Head Coach for the CT State Champion Cheshire High School Girl's Team for the past 6 years. Dan has provided leadership to YMCA swimming championships and Connecticut High School championships, winning the 2017 State Championship with Cheshire High School as Head Coach. The Cheshire YMCA Women won the 2018 YMCA Short Course National Championship in Greensboro this Spring and the Long Course National Championship in College Park, MD this Summer.

Dan has twice been recognized as the Connecticut Age Group Coach of the Year, won the YMCA Character Champion Award, coached over 100 swimmers YMCA National Top 10 performances, and his swimmers have won 16 Connecticut Age Group Team Championships.

“I am humbled and ecstatic to be added to the already tremendous coaching staff with the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg. I am looking forward to getting to know the families and help everyone in the program reach their greatest potential, in and out of the pool,” remarked Mascolo.





Dylan Jones, Head Age Group Coach

Coach Dylan Jones is the new YSSC Age Group Head Coach/MTY Blue & Yellow Lead coach!!  Dylan comes to us from the Potomac Valley LSC (Washington DC Area) where he coached the past 4 years at Machine Aquatics under Head Coach Dan Jacobs.  At Machine, he was the lead age group coach at their Audrey Moore Site.  Prior to his time at Machine, Dylan had worked for 8 years as Tuckahoe Head Site Coach with Sea Devil Swimming, also in the DC area.  He has also been the head coach for several summer league teams in the Northern Virginia area over the past 13 years.  Along with coaching, Dylan has worked in the Fairfax County VA School System as a Special Education Assistant.

Dylan brings a high level of energy and excitement to the position along with a strong background of technique based training.  His personality and skill set will be a great fit for our Sea Cuke Family!!!



Wendy Viney, Head Developmental Coach

Wendy coaches the YSL group. Wendy grew up in Greer where she developed a love for swimming, dancing, and cheering.  She swam for Rusty Brook Swim Team before graduating from Clemson University in Secondary Education (Mathematics).  Throughout the summers of college and her teaching position (Berea High School), Wendy worked at Foxcoft Pool in several capacities to include, lifeguard, manager, and swim team coach.  Finally, after nine summers, Wendy and husband, Jeff, moved to Florida and started a family.  Now, they are  in Greer and have two boy Cukes, Cam and Copeland, and her daughter Strawberry Fastskin Gardner Anne. Wendy had coached YSL for several seasons as well leading  the Age Group Dryland for 3 seasons. She worked with all of the color groups in the Cuke dryland program.  Wendy is thrilled to have joined the coaching team at the Y and looks forward to a great season with Green and Red!  


Bart Simonson, Age Group Site Coach

Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA

Bart attended Winthrop University and graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education. Bart began coaching swimming with the Upper Palmetto YMCA Rays swim team, where he coached for four years. Bart produced many AG Sectional and AG Zone qualifiers during his tenure at Upper Palmetto. He joined the Y Spartaquatics Swim Team coaching staff in September 2012. While in college, Bart managed two pools with Carolina Pool Management. He became Aquatics Director in the Spring of 2014.

Fun facts:  Bart has two Australian shepherds and has won at least 5 eating contests (that he admits to).
