Ready, Set, Move! Success Story - Meet Jennifer and Porsche


Hi my name is Jennifer and I was asked by the YMCA OF GREATER SPARTANBURG to write my story. Of course, I was very excited because I would love for you guys to know how much the YMCA and the Ready, Set, Move! program has helped me. I started the program toward the end of September and I finished it around the end of November. I weighed in at 187 lbs. when I started. I am now at 169 lbs. and I feel great! The trainers the YMCA has are awesome, the program is free and it is a great tool to help you reach your goals. My goal is 30 pounds. I don't have much more weight to go and I know I'm going to reach my goal sooner than I expected with the help of the program. I am healthier, I breathe better, I eat better, and I'm stronger than I was before. With this program, you inform them of your goals and where you would like to be and they help you get through it all. From nutrition basics, giving you an idea of what to eat and not eat, a weekly plan on what to do every day from cardio to muscular strength training. They gave me so much motivation! My trainer even worked out with me a couple of times, which was great. I do the routine that I was given to help me and I am so thankful because I feel so much better and I look great. I want to thank the YMCA OF GREATER SPARTANBURG and all the people that help with this program. It is a wonderful thing.


The Ready, Set, Move program has been an amazing experience and an asset to my membership at the Y. This program allowed me to grow, learn, and understand my body, all while realizing what works best for me. It equipped me with so many tools on nutrition, exercise, and even goal setting. When I originally began the program I had no expectations, I just knew that I wanted to lose weight. Brianna helped me realize my own capabilities and strength and encouraged me to do my absolute best. I would recommend The Ready, Set, Move! program to everyone! Even if you don’t have weight loss goals, it still provides you knowledge for a healthier lifestyle. Now I know that I am capable of doing great things, I am excited to live a more active lifestyle for not only my family, but myself.

Ready, Set, Move! - Learn about this free program!

The YMCA is excited to offer the new “Ready, Set, Move!” program that is now  free to any member at the YMCA. This program is focused on education and is a great introduction to health & wellness. With your membership at the YMCA, you will be able to work 1-on-1 with a Health and Wellness Specialist to kick start your fitness journey. The “Ready, Set, Move!” program utilizes a three step process that will help you be successful in reaching your goals at the YMCA.

Step 1: Fitness Assessment

In order to get you to where you need to be, our team needs to understand where you are currently at in relation to the five components of fitness. The five components of fitness include body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. The fitness assessment will test each of these components of fitness and categorize you by percentile ranking based on your age and gender. After the fitness assessment, you will be handed a basic 12 week exercise plan designed by our Healthy Living Director to follow while you learn about cardiovascular health, muscle health, nutrition, and goal setting. Our wellness staff can help you adapt the 12 week exercise plan at any time!

Step 2: Education

Throughout the 12 week exercise plan, our team will educate you on topics related to health & wellness. The best part about this part of the “Ready, Set, Move!” program is that you get to choose the topics that are of interest to you. Each member completing this program will be allowed to choose from a list of topics that will be covered in different appointments with a Health and Wellness Specialist. You can choose to learn about one topic, all four, or none of them! It is all based on your goals and what interests you have in health and wellness.

Cardiovascular Health with a cardio equipment orientation
Muscle Health with a Techno Gym strength equipment orientation
Nutrition Basics & How to Read a Food Label
Goal Setting

Step 3: Following Up

We are here to support and guide you through your health and wellness journey as you strive to reach your own goals. Please make sure you stop by to let our team know how you are doing and to ask questions! You will also have an option to do a follow up appointment or phone call with a Health and Wellness Specialist every 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or a year!
