Angel Tree

Looking to Help Someone During the Holidays?

Each of our branches across the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg will feature an Angel Tree.

Angel Tree

With the holidays approaching, we want to ensure every person has something to look forward to on Christmas Day or their sacred day of celebration. Please take a moment to consider those families who may need a little extra support this year during the holidays.

How can I help?

The holiday season is one of the Y’s most cherished times of the year as it provides us and our members an opportunity to help and support one another. We are partnering with an earth angel this year who has single-handed created a nonprofit for our community’s forgotten and sometimes, homeless, seniors. Registered Respiratory Therapist, Rebecca Shippy, has a heart of gold and during COVID was laid off, but being a nurse, she knew people needed her, so she immediately sought how to help the people in our neighborhoods. The people she found were lovable, full of wisdom and spirit, motivated yet they were forgotten and discarded. Rebecca knew she had to help bring these people together and create a safe haven for them. A place were their smiles could be seen, their words listened to, and their laughs heard.

For those who wish to provide gifts, please visit your local branch’s Angel Tree starting the week of Thanksgiving, remove an Angel Tag from the tree, and stop by the Member Services Center to check a senior in our community’s wish list. Your gifts can help make a holiday morning a little brighter for a senior in our community. Gifts are due to the Front Desk by December 15th.

We will also need some volunteer elves to help wrap, so if you are a champion gift wrapper or just enjoy partaking in holiday festivities, please let us know if you are available to volunteer December 19th. We would be grateful for your support!
