Become a certified lifeguard through the Lifeguard Certification Program at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg. Our blended learning course covers essential lifeguarding skills, including water rescue techniques, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED usage. We certify our lifegurdas through the American Red Cross.
Led by experienced instructors, you will learn how to prevent accidents, respond confidently to emergencies, and maintain a safe aquatic environment. Upon successful completion, participants earn certifications in:
- Shallow Water Lifeguard
- Deep Water Lifeguard
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid
- AED
Students must be 15 years old by course completion and successfully pass the prerequisite swim skills evaluation
Stay current and confident through our ongoing Lifeguard Training and recertification opportunities. The YMCA of Greater Spartanburg offers refresher courses and in-service training sessions to help lifeguards maintain certification and stay up to date on safety protocols and rescue techniques.

Our Lifeguard Certification and Training program provides the hands-on instruction and knowledge required to become a certified lifeguard in Spartanburg, SC. Becoming a certified lifeguard opens the door to employment opportunities at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg and other aquatic facilities. We are currently hiring lifeguards with competitive pay, flexible scheduling, and a free YMCA membership with employment.
Interested in working with us? Qualified candidates may be eligible for a work trade agreement to complete certification in exchange for a 100-hour employment commitment.
