Youth Basketball
GET IN THE GAME!
Lace up your sneakers and get ready to pass, shoot, and score! YMCA Youth Basketball is a developmental league built around teaching the fundamentals to help each player learn, grow and thrive. Ages 3 – 14 learn how to improve communication, teamwork, and their skills on and off the court.
Sports Communication – Please review www.quickscores.com/spartanburgymca as this is the platform used to communicate with all participants.
Game Schedule TBD – games to be played on Saturdays.
Please keep in mind the schedule may change based on the participation numbers! Our priority is the safety of our participants, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the game of basketball.
Your athlete will need:
- Athletic wear (No jeans)
- Sneakers (Closed)
- Water Bottle
- Shorts
- Basketball (Please label your basketball)
- Jersey – See Jersey Store Note
- Jersey Store: Beginning this season, jerseys will no longer be included in the program registration fee. Families will purchase jerseys directly through our online Jersey Store, which opens May 1.
- More details will be shared as we open the store. We are excited to announce this change as it will improve the program and create a long-term process to help all involved.
- Reusable Jerseys: Jerseys are designed to be reused for a minimum of two years, allowing players to wear the same jersey across multiple seasons. We expect to have a jersey for Basketball/Volleyball, and another for Outdoor Sports (Soccer, Flag Football, T-Ball).
**U10 & Up age Groups:
- Program numbers determine whether your child will be placed in a gender-specific or coed team. Lower participation numbers will result in a coed league.
- Season will include 6 games and a single-elimination tournament to finish our season
Refund Policy—Other than for an outstanding event, our refund policy is that once a child has participated in practice or a game, no refunds will be awarded.
U4 (3 Year Old)
YMCA Youth Basketball – U4 (Ages 3–4)
The U4 Basketball program is an introductory experience designed to give our youngest athletes a fun, safe, and positive introduction to basketball. At this age, the focus is on developing basic motor skills, coordination, and a love for being active rather than structured gameplay.
Players are introduced to fundamental concepts such as dribbling, passing, and shooting through age-appropriate, activity-based drills and games. Emphasis is placed on movement, hand-eye coordination, balance, and learning to follow simple instructions.
Sessions are short, playful, and highly engaging, allowing children to explore the game at their own pace. Coaches provide lots of encouragement and support, helping each child build confidence, social skills, and comfort in a team setting.
The U4 division prioritizes fun, exploration, and positive experiences with basketball, helping children develop an early enthusiasm for sports while learning to interact with peers in a structured but playful environment.
