BeStrong
BESTRONG TO WELLNESS PROGRAM
BeStrong is a weekly exercise program designed for cancer survivors to learn to exercise safely and to maintain and/or improve health and fitness. Participants may join by referral from their physician or through independent registration online or in person.
The program will be offered at the Thomas E. Hannah YMCA where a wellness staff specialist will evaluate strength, range of motion, and endurance. Based on the findings at the evaluation, survivors will either begin the program or be referred to their physician for medical clearance to ensure health and safety prior to beginning the program. The BeStrong program will be led by wellness specialist, in a small group setting. The wellness specialist will help survivors progress through the program to build endurance, strength, and range of motion, prepare for the LiveStrong program, and ensure exercise safety.
The program is offered to any cancer survivor 18 years and older. LiveStrong Alumni are highly encouraged to join! In order for the program to be available for future participants, participants are asked to make a commitment to the program, attending small group exercise training at least 2x a week but participants may attend all four classes during the week if they wish. Participants will be encouraged to join a LiveStrong class as one becomes available. Additionally, upon completion of the LiveStrong program, survivors will be encouraged to resume BeStrong.
